The remaining launches will be performed by China\u2019s growing commercial launch sector.&nbsp;<\/p><p>The plans are outlined in CASC\u2019s annual \u201cblue book,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/mp.weixin.qq.com\/s\/1cWhijwMZdSzy5Nl9kaQgQ\">released <\/a>Feb. 26. The document does not provide a full launch manifest nor a detailed schedule, but offers an overview of planned activities.<\/p><p>Major missions include two crewed and two cargo missions to the Tiangong space station. The first half of the year will see the launch of the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/china-to-launch-queqiao-2-moon-relay-satellite-in-early-2024\/\">Queqiao-2<\/a> lunar relay satellite and <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/chinas-change-6-probe-arrives-at-spaceport-for-first-ever-lunar-far-side-sample-mission\/\">Chang\u2019e-6<\/a>, a first-ever lunar far side sample return mission.&nbsp;<\/p><p>Other priorities noted include work on the country\u2019s crewed lunar landing plan, targeting putting astronauts on the moon before 2030. Deep space exploration, geostationary radar satellites, the development of a new crew spacecraft and the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/china-conducts-parachute-tests-for-asteroid-sample-return-mission\/\">Tianwen-2<\/a> (2025) near Earth asteroid and <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/chinas-change-7-moon-mission-to-target-shackleton-crater\/\">Chang\u2019e-7<\/a> (2026) lunar south pole missions are also noted.&nbsp;<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Chang&#39;e-6 profile. 53-day mission from launch till landing. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/jZNBa6uGrN\">pic.twitter.com\/jZNBa6uGrN<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Andrew Jones (@AJ_FI) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AJ_FI\/status\/1760227376863068316?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 21, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure><p>Further notable missions include an ocean salinity detection satellite, the Sino-Franco Space-based multi-band astronomical Variable Objects Monitor (SVOM), <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/china-launches-lobster-eye-einstein-probe-to-unveil-mysteries-of-x-ray-universe\/\">Einstein Probe<\/a>, the China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite-2 with European <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oeaw.ac.at\/en\/iwf\/research\/space-missions\/future-missions\/cses-2\">collaboration<\/a>, and the retrievable Shijian-19 space science satellite. There will also be debut flights for the Long March 6C and Long March 12 rockets.&nbsp;<\/p><p>The planned 100 launch figure is a significant rise on the national record-setting <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/chinese-satellite-internet-mission-rounds-off-record-year-for-global-launches\/\">67 launches<\/a> in 2023. CASC conducted 50 of these, with 17 performed by commercial actors. CASC targeted launching more than <a href=\"https:\/\/mp.weixin.qq.com\/s\/YeaQNaVA0A5vERyNgPcCVg\">60 times<\/a> in 2023, according to a January 2023 statement, meaning it fell well short of last year\u2019s goal.<\/p><p>New <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/china-launches-20-satellites-on-separate-inland-and-sea-rocket-launches\/#:~:text=China%E2%80%99s%20sea%20launch%20cadence%20grows\">sea <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/china-completes-new-commercial-launch-pad-to-boost-access-to-space\/\">commercial spaceports<\/a> at Haiyang and Wenchang respectively will help facilitate the planned launch rate growth. CASC also says it aims to complete multiple commercial launches, including rideshares.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>New launch vehicles<\/strong><\/h2><p>The Long March 12 is a new launch vehicle developed by CASC\u2019s Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (SAST). It was previously referred to as the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/china-completes-new-commercial-launch-pad-to-boost-access-to-space\/#:~:text=Second%20pad%20to%20host%20%E2%80%9CXLV%E2%80%9D%20launcher\">XLV<\/a>\u201d and will launch from the new commercial spaceport at Wenchang. The Long March 12 will be China\u2019s first 3.8-meter-diameter launcher. It will be capable of lifting 10 tons to low Earth orbit or 6 tons to a 700-kilometer sun-synchronous orbit.<\/p><p>The Long 6C\u2014a variant of the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/china-launches-first-long-march-rocket-with-solid-boosters\/\">Long March 6A<\/a> minus its solid side boosters\u2014will have its first launch this year. CASC previously <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/china-launch-plans-more-than-70-launches-in-2023\/\">planned <\/a>for its debut launch in 2023.<\/p><p>Separately, official newspaper China Space News reported that CASC is planning four launches of its largest rocket, the Long March 5, in 2024. A further five missions will follow in 2025. These figures do not include launches of the Long March 5B low Earth orbit variant.<\/p><p>The rocket has so far launched seven times since its debut in 2016. A period of more than 900 days grounded due to the failure of the second launch. Its 2024 launches include the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/china-launches-classified-military-satellite-towards-geostationary-belt\/\">TJS-11 classified satellite<\/a> launched last week and the Chang\u2019e-6 mission expected in May.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">China is planning a greater launch rate for the Long March 5. Shenzhou-18 will launch in the first half of the year to replace the current Shenzhou-17 crew. Another six-month-long crewed mission, Shenzhou-19, will launch late in the year, taking over from Shenzhou-18.<\/p><p>CASC also noted it will continue work on a \u201cfour-dimensional new generation commercial remote sensing satellite system.\u201d The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsti.gov.cn\/kjdt\/kjrd\/202211\/t20221110_102316.html\">system<\/a>, starting with SuperView (Gaojing) satellites according to earlier statements, is to comprise a total of at least 28 satellites. These include high-resolution optical payloads, wide-width optical payloads, high-resolution radar payloads and other diversified types of commercial remote sensing satellites.<\/p><p>It will also support the integration and value-added services of the Beidou GNSS system, and integrate satellite applications into emerging fields to support key regional economic development.<\/p><p>Officials with the state-owned space and defense giant stated in a press conference that the corporation would continue to make new and greater contributions to accelerating the construction of a powerful aerospace country and support the construction of a world-class military.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-commercial-plans\"><strong>Commercial plans<\/strong><\/h2><p>The blue book did not detail the plans of commercial actors. However previous statements by a number of these actors give an indication of the plans.<\/p><p>Landspace aims to launch three Zhuque-2 methalox rockets in 2024, following two successes in 2023. It will also likely conduct further<a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/landspace-launches-third-methane-zhuque-2-targets-2025-launch-of-new-stainless-steel-rocket\/\"> hop tests for its stainless steel Zhuque-3<\/a>. Galactic Energy plans at least 10 Ceres-1 solid rocket launches, while also debuting the kerolox Pallas-1.&nbsp;<\/p><p>Space Pioneer aims for a first flight of the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/chinas-space-pioneer-raise-funding-for-its-falcon-9-class-rocket\/\">Tianlong-3<\/a> around July, while Deep Blue Aerospace\u2019s Nebula-1 orbital, reusable rocket could fly in the second half of 2024.&nbsp;<\/p><p>CAS Space (Kinetica-1), Expace (Kuaizhou rockets), and Orienspace (<a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/orienspace-breaks-chinese-commercial-launch-records-with-gravity-1-solid-rocket\/\">Gravity-1<\/a>) have various plans for solid rocket launches.&nbsp;<\/p><p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/chinese-launch-startup-orienspace-secures-83-5-million\/#:~:text=own%20reusable%20launchers.-,Company,-Rocket%20Name\">number of Chinese commercial firms<\/a> are racing to develop and test reusable launch vehicles.
