Shenergy Chengyi, a Shanghai-based state-owned enterprise focusing on innovative investments, Tiangchuang Capital, an investment firm with a focus on emerging technologies, venture capital firm Baiyan Fund, K2 Angel Partners, which focuses on industrial angel investment and has invested in Orienspace and Deep Blue Aerospace, and investor Zhang Chao participated in the funding round.<\/p><p>Cosmoleap, full name Beijing Dahang Transition Technology Co., Ltd., announced its existence and start of operations in March 2024. The company focuses on developing a low-cost, high-reliability, reusable launch vehicle. The goal is to \u201csupport satellite Internet construction,\u201d likely referring to China\u2019s megaconstellation plans.<\/p><p>It aims to hold a test flight of the \u201cYueqian\u201d or &#8220;Leap&#8221; rocket in either 2025 or 2026. An animated video with the funding announcement indicates that the company is following a tower and \u201cchopstick\u201d landing method recently <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/spacex-launches-fifth-starship-catches-super-heavy-booster\/\">demonstrated for the first time by SpaceX<\/a> with its Starship system.&nbsp;<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">CosmoLeap \/ DaHangYueQian has completed a billion-dollar financing, for the &quot;chopstick clamp&quot; tower recovery test proposed. It will have a 4.0 meter diameter and length of 75 meters. Its payload capacity to a 1,000 km altitude orbit for constellation purposes will be 10,460 kilograms when expendable, or 6,280 kg when the first stage is recovered.<\/p><p>The company also plans a 126-meter-long rocket, capable of carrying 100 tons to the same orbit when expended, or 36 tons when reused. The first launch is targeted for around 2030.<\/p><p>Cosmoleap investors stated their beliefs that the company can benefit from the commercial space supply chain built across 2015-203, while also making the most of latecomer advantage.<\/p><p>The company enters a field already inhabited by commercial entities <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/landspace-completes-10-kilometer-reusable-rocket-test-eyes-2025-orbital-launch\/\">Landspace<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/chinese-launch-startup-galactic-energy-raises-154-million-for-pallas-1-reusable-rocket\/\">Galactic Energy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/space-pioneer-raises-207-million-for-reusable-rocket\/\">Space Pioneer<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/chinas-ispace-launches-and-lands-rocket-test-stage\/\">iSpace<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/deep-blue-aerospace-hop-test-suffers-anomaly-moments-before-landing\/\">Deep Blue Aerospace<\/a> among others, state-owned spinoffs <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/cas-space-of-china-aims-to-go-international\/\">CAS Space<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/chinese-company-expace-reusable-rocket-test\">Expace<\/a>, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/chinas-state-owned-sast-performs-reusable-rocket-test\/\">reusable Long March rockets<\/a> being developed by CASC.<\/p><p>A Cosmoleap representative made a presentation at the recent International Astronautical Congress in Milan, Italy. Apparently inconsistent with its apparent start of operations, the presentation <a href=\"https:\/\/iafastro.directory\/iac\/paper\/id\/87265\/abstract-pdf\/IAC-24,D2,1,7,x87265.brief.pdf?2024-09-07.06:44:21\">abstract<\/a> states that the medium-sized reusable commercial launch vehicle has, \u201cfollowing three years of detailed design and extensive ground testing,\u201d a first flight scheduled for 2025.<\/p><p>China\u2019s central government has designated commercial space as a strategic emerging sector and noted it as a priority.
